I'm planning to get inked for the first (and should be the only) time with a large-ish image of a magpie similar to the following link...
    http://www.remistattoo.com/gallery/Tattoo/Colour/flying_magpie_tattoo_color.jpg.html
I'm a 36 year old guy and this for me is a definite go-er, having chosen the artist I want to do it, done safety research etc. etc. anyway, I have had a thing for magpies (I just like the look of them and what they're about, that's all) since being a kid and was finally inspired to have one inked when a mate of mine was talking about having one done and I thought to myself "I like the idea of a tattoo, but I've never thought of anything I'd really like to have done.." when suddenly I thought "magpie!" I Googled for magpie tattoos and was surprised to find quite a few relevant results and basically fell in love with the image above, and will be having something very similar done by the original artist in Dublin, I will be travelling from Manchester and expect to shell out £850 all told, he's going high on my chest to the point where his wing tips will be onto the top my arm and across my shoulder a little, which I think makes it more masculine, given that magpie tattoos, the few that there are out there, seem to generally be a female thing.
    Just wondered what people think...

Well, Pirate 13 by negative I mean any ignorant and insulting remarks, I'm open to constructive criticism and advice.
Wraith I have added a pic and a bit of info about me now, I set up my account late last night and was tired. Take care.
    Regards, Darren.

That's cool Wraith, yeah Aussie magpies have attitude as well, but the one I'm having done will be of the European variety with the blue and green sheen on the black tail and wing feathers in certain places. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thanks Greg, yeah I take your point about one leading to another, but I'm sure to be as careful about choosing any further ones I have been about this first one, that's if I think of anything that'll compliment my magpie...

Well you can probably guess that I love the image... but everyone else is right...you're gonna want more... maybe think bigger picture or what you can later combine it with

Murder of crows... very interesting tat you have on your back there... one idea I'm toying with is a snake image to attack the magpie as I also like snakes, I'm gonna get the magpie to have his beak open to keep that option open, as you may know the magpie is a type of crow so we'd have similar themes there...

Just posted a pic of the position I'm having it as a template stuck on with sellotape :). Only about 6 weeks til the real thing now...

You're not the first to say that re. tat addiction. If I do think about more (I think I mentioned above about the idea of a snake attacking the magpie) I'll be wanting them all co-ordinated and making more templates like the one in my profile pic and thinking VERY carefully before booking the tat artist again...

The magpie has landed at last! (see tattoo pic on my profile) Not quite the pose I planned as the artist wanted it more different than the link above than I thought...5.5 hours of bearable pain... until the last half an hour when I was trying hard not to swear and leaving fingernail marks in the artist's couch... well worth it though, love the end result!
