Tattoo just completed...pic taken by tattoo artist for his portfolio!! I'm in someone's portfolio!!! =0D
The ankh is the Egyptian symbol of life. Water, earth, fire and air sustain life which is why they are within the ankh. Each element flows into the other showing a circle of life, no beginning with end, no end with no beginning, etc. The phoenix represents rebirth, which to me also means overcoming life obstacles, tragedies, etc. The eye in the center represents me and the tears signify good, bad, sad, overjoyed, etc. moments in my life. As they hit the water they wash away and become memories of my life.

I only wish there was a way to perserve the temporary "raised lines" that appear briefly just after getting inked. My Phoenix and your Ankh both looked outstanding and the raised lines just defined the artwork even more.
