Found this bat on a first edition copy of Tales of Terror with an intro written by Boris Karloff. In ancient Europe bats were sometimes nailed to doors to ward off demons and black magic.The Tupinamba believe a bat will swallow the sun at the ending of the world.It was also a symbol of envy, because envy works in the shadows and does not expose itself to the light of day.
