  I will tell you from personal experience, I started on my own. Teaching yourself has a lot of flaws. Everything that I taught myself, I had to forget and start over when I became professional. The apprentiships around here go for around 5 grand but it for the whole apprentiship, not 3 months. My recommendation to you is to try and befriend a local artist so you can hang out with them. If they are dicks, then find someone who tattoos a way that you like, pick a spot on your body that you can watch, and literally watch every single second of it.
