EYEAGAINST: LIVE AT FITZGERALDS, 10/20/2007, HOUSTON
In 1997 the members of eyeagainst came together for the first time. Even though the quartet of kids from the Heights were far from being classified as excellent musicians they still were able to create an intense fan base after their first show. Over the years, eyeagainst would grow into a band that easily defied categorization. Incorporating the raw brutality of heavy metal along with the urgency and unbridled passion of hardcore, eyeagainst had easily re-invented itself by the time of their first official release, Sentiments of Her. This creative awakening brought the band a rabid flock of new fans and much overdue attention from the local media. Even nationally revered groups like Candiria, Bad Brains and Deftones began to sing the band’s praises after having shared the stage with them. Everything seemed to be going right for the band until they experienced some internal disputes and ultimately decided to take an indefinite hiatus. Fortunately for Houston music fans, eyeagainst has regrouped after lying dormant for two years and now sounds stronger than ever. What you will witness is sure to be one of the most emotionally engrossing and enigmatic shows of your life. Even though you will probably be staring intensely at the guys on stage, hoping they don’t swing a guitar, bass or microphone into your teeth, it will definitely be hard to take your mind off of the awesome energy that eyeagainst emits onstage. They are one of the few groups who are capable of giving themselves entirely over to the music and that, my friends, is a rarity not just in this city but in all rock ‘n’ roll across the country. It is no secret that the current state of local music in Houston is essentially devout of originality and heart. This is what makes the return of eyeagainst so important. -Jason Gagnon/Hater Magazine
