How living on a boat can be disasterous.

Who has not dreamed of owning a boat? Live free, without restrictions. Travel when you want, wherever you wish. Who does not remember the end of the movie ‘Romancing the Stone’ (1984), in which Michael Douglas ends the film on board his new boat? Awesome idea, hun?

Well. I bought a boat to live in it. Thirty days would be a good start. Just find out if I'd suit the new situation.

I got a pier where to ‘park’ my small sailboat. I remembered going with a few things because the space is quite limited. I met a couple of neighbors that were moored alongside. Nice people who I thought would get along very well. They are Paul and Marie. They also had a 15 years teenage daughter, Ann, who did not take her eyes off me. Her mother noticed this, but I did not care.

The first day I had many things to do: maintenance, cleaning and some shopping. After lunch, when I returned from the supermarket, I had a strange surprise: Ann was in my boat, in the cabin. I asked what she was doing there, what I heard: 'just checking..'

I gently asked her to don't do that anymore because her father wouldn't like. 'He does not need to know. It will be our little secret. '' No, I rather to let him know. ' It was when she came out and heard a voice. Her father was outside. Surprised by her daughter in my cabin, but seems like he didn't mind. He borrowed my toolbox. I hesitated cause I've had many things to do: repair the electric system and the windows on the roof.. But ultimately, he was the first person I knew in the club - thought it would not hurt. While he was using my tools, I would do the cleaning. In the late afternoon, I had not received my tools back.

It was very hot that night with a light breeze blowing. I saw some lightning in the distance. I thought it would not bring 'long thick'. Terrible mistake! Soon I got my boat rocking with the waves. Strong rain: I could not imagine debut the first night that way. I went to bed early, but I've found it soaked. I didn't repair the window and now it was leaking on my mattress. Dammed! When I thought about going after my tools, I heard a thunder and surprise: no light. It was dark and no plans to get better. Dame! Fish in the refrigerator to thaw and I couldn't repair the battery. I decided go to another cabin to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up late. Slept very badly, but the morning promises: sun is shining. When I came out to the bow, whom I meet? Ann lied and sunbathing. "Hello." I asked what she was doing there, and she said she had planned to go outside with me to take the sun 'au natural'. 'Hell no! Get out,’ I said. At this moment, her father was coming and again he didn't seen to like her daughter on my boat - not a word about it. He said he would return my tools soon. Sh#! I had so many things to do...

I had lunch at the club and took the chance to get more supplies. My girlfriend was coming to visit me the next morning to see how were things going. When I returned to the boat I found bikinis hanging to dry. ‘What was that?’ They were Ann's. ‘Damn! I´ll get in trouble soon..’ I thought. So I took the bikinis to get them back. I was thinking about how I could explain what was going on to Marie. She would talk to her daughter and avoid further problems. I would take the chance to ask my tools back as well.

I met Paul, next to their boat. Asked by Marie. 'What do you want with her?' 'Nothing important' I answered. He said 'She is with Ann at the mail, why?' ‘Hahn ... Ann forget this bikini in my boat’ .... '' What!? ' – He was visible angry at me.

Well, I decided the best was to leave him without giving further explanations. And did not get my tools, again.

I returned to my boat. I've had many things to do before my girlfriend arrives. I left Ann's bikini in the other cabin. It had brought too much trouble and I would return after to her and talk to her mother.

I arranged a few things, cleaned the bathroom, took a shower and waited for my girlfriend. She arrived just before the sunset. I was showing her enthusiastically the boat when she found Ann's sandals. 'What is this? Two days and you're already doing stupid things?”

"It's a long story”, I said and explained that there was a girl who did not leave me alone, but there was nothing to worry about. She did not like. The next day we would sail and lunch on the boat.

When we got back after dinner, we decided to spend the night outside. Romantic, right? After a few minutes, thousands of mosquitoes were flying over our heads. ‘Damn’, I thought, ‘what else can go wrong?’

Rain. Lots of rain! We got inside the boat for shelter, but it was dripping in my cabin. ‘Damn!’ I did not repair the roof window. ‘What else could go possibly wrong?’ We went to another cabin and there it was: my girlfriend found Ann's bikini, on the bed ... F#!. Suddenly I found myself sleeping alone in wet bed with Ann's bikini.

At dawn the fish that was in the fridge started to smell. ‘F#!, f#!!’
I forgot to connect the battery's electrical system after the storm.

Early morning my girlfriend had left. Last thing I heard was something like ‘…maybe we'd meet again’. That's when Ann's father arrived in my boat. ‘My tools’, I thought.

He said he knew everything. ‘..Everything??’ He said Ann was pregnant. 'What?!’ I was shocked. ‘How the hell I was supposed to be the father within two days? ’ I said.
''Motherf#er!, so you're really f #! my daughter!" Last thing I remember was a punch in my face.

Two hours after Ann and her mother came by. Her mother said that everything was clear, that Ann had lied and they apologize. They said they were going out for a few days to unwind and it should not bother me.

‘I quit’. Asked to clean the boat and tow it to the dry marina. I shall come back next summer. My tools never appeared neither did my girlfriend.

    Oh!... Ann still sends postcards.

Lauro, is this fair dinkum? Sounds like a perfect plot for a B grade soap. (can you have A grade soap?) That's amazing. I would have called the cops and had this guy charged and you would have got your toolbox back.

    Hi steve!
Yes, it happened to me, in deed. I did not call the cops, cause I´d get in serious trouble too, if you know what I mean. (Anns age.. etc etc).
