BIOGRAPHY AND THOUGHT My name is Alex De Pase and I’m 31 years old. I began tattooing as self –taught person when I was 15 years old and since that moment I have always tried to improve my technic-artistical attitudes. In 1997 I opened my first tattoo studio. After the first years, due to the remarkable increase of work, I transferred my studio in a bigger location very tooled up. From the beginning I have studied very much drawing, painting and art in general, for the search and deepening of what is the foundation of tattoo. For much time I’ve tattooed every kind and style of images but more or less since a couple of years I’ve dedicated myself only to these artistic lines: Realism and what I’ve defined “Personal Vision”,that is my personal style to represent images and feelings. At any case I think that Realism is the starting point of any artist. The perfection of reality offers us a lot of details, and until you haven’t gain the higher level of details perception you can’t think to do the next step that is the reinterpretation of the reality as you feel it. I love realism because aimed to an endless improvement studying the light, the depth and the faithful copy of details. On the other hand my second style “Personal Vision” is aimed to a pictorial vision of tattoo, that is a free interpretation very personal (therefore not linked to common symbols or ikons) of what one person want to tell with his tattoo, giving a unique value. What I want to explain is that in every tattoo I create for someone with this style express feelings, stories and emotions which belong exclusively to that person. Tattoo is extremely fascinating because is a real art-form as well as painting, and exactly as painting it should be expressed at 360°. I think that what really lacks in tattoo is the freedom to release yourself from those ikons, those styles and subjects which for years have characterized it and not always belonging to every tattooist’s culture.
