Tattoos and Jobs
-
I plan on getting a tattoo on my arm in a couple weeks but also, I plan to be looking for a job. My question is, how do most companies react to tattoos that are visible? As i'm applying, i'll probably ask some of the workers if tattoos are allowed where they work, but i'd like to hear some views from you guys. Thanks.

it depends what sort of job you are applying to and how visible the ink acutally is. id say it also depends on the culture of the company youre applying to... im in the corporate world, and where i work, i dont see too many visible tattoos... less often on men, since we are in slacks and button down shirts... occassionally on the women, like back of the neck or upper back or ankles...

Unless you are getting a bar, or a job at Dell, which prides themselves on hiring the odd balls, then I would suggest not to. Most companies take one look at your tattoo and don't hire you just based off of that. It doesn't matter if you went to Yale, graduated with a 4.0 and have a Doctorate, they still unfortunately won't hire you. Sad!!!

a lot of companies do not like visibility of it but depending on what the ink itself is can help. I work in a very formal atmosphere and my ink is visible but i get more compliments then i do snears for it.

id say cover it up in ur interview, then if/when u get the job, reveale it,if they sack u,sue them 4 unfair dismisle x

Yeh, i'm most going to hide the tattoo at interviews then show it when i work and if they complain, i'll just ask why they hired me.. If they don't mention anything about tattoos it shouldn't be a problem.. I hope lol.

I'm a preschool nurse an I'v never had any issues. Most parents just talk to me about them. I dont suppose i'll ever be a manager tho ... !

It really varies from one company/industry to the next. If you are in one of the "hipper" industries that attracts young people and creative process, then you probably won't have any need to hide a tattoo on a daily basis. If you're going to be a litigation lawyer, appearing in court, or something like that, then you will ALWAYS have to hide it. I would say - wear long sleeves to your interviews, then get a feel for the corporate culture before let your boss see your tats. Worse case with an arm tattoo, you can always just wear long sleeves. Good luck with the job hunt!

My current job, no one knew I had tattoos for about a year, then one day I asked if anyone cared, and they were all surprised i had them, no one cared.

Again i ask..... why would anyone WANT to work in an environment that is restricting and repressing your right to be and express yourself?
Forget about the tattoo.... Think about the real issue here.
What do you want to do with your life?
Where do you want to do it?
Who do you want to do it with?Fuck the corporations.... Free yourself my friend...... Live the life you deserve.... We're all waiting right here for you to come join us :o)
